Sabrina Labis (*1990 in Zurich, lives in Berlin) is an artist, filmmaker and lecturer. She deals with concepts and processes of digital imagery and technology to unveil and question their underlying value systems, gender relations, power structures, and social mechanisms. With its specific digital subcultures and aesthetic practices, the internet is an essential source of inspiration and material for the artist. Based on ongoing research processes, Labis creates poetic, multimedia pieces combining diverse materials through which she shares her observations with viewers.
Sabrina Labis has received grants and awards, including the Exhibition Prize of the Kunstmuseum Luzern (2015) and the Elsa-Neumann Fellowship of the State of Berlin (2019), Deutschlandstipendium of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (2016–2018), project grants from the Canton of Zurich (2016), and a studio grant from the Berlin Senate (2019–2025).
Her works have been presented internationally in solo and group exhibitions as well as at film festivals, including the Akademie der Künste Berlin (2025), the 19th International Human Rights Film Festival, Albania (2024), the Katarzyna Kozyra Foundation, Warsaw (2023), the Centre Pompidou, Paris (2022), the Neuer Berliner Kunstverein (n.b.k.), Berlin (2022), and the Kunstmuseum Luzern (2015, 2017). In addition, her works have been shown at the SCOPE – Biennale for Media Art & Photography, Hanover (2021), and the Videonale 17 at the Kunstmuseum Bonn (2017).
